Sunday Afternoon Drive

When I was a kid my dad took us out on Sunday afternoon drives. He collects old cars and there was always a car that he wanted to take out on a slow, relaxing ride. We especially did this when the spring weather was setting in or the autumn colors were at their best.  I can remember riding in a 1972, light blue, Chrysler convertible with the wind whipping my hair.

We passed through rural areas with country fences, golden fields and old red barns. We sat at small and large scale airports while dad explained the details of whatever plane was sitting on the tarmac, coming in for a landing or in the air. It was a great way to remember that we weren't always in a rush to get somewhere and could look out the window and see what we may have missed before.

Yesterday it was the best weather day we have had so far in 2010. It hit close to 70 degrees and was a perfect day to head out in the car. Jon and I headed for a park in the downtown area. St. Louis has a great park system and there are many places we still need to explore. When we arrived at Tower Grove Park we got out and walked while taking in the fresh air of the day and the activities of the park. There were dog walkers, runners, photographers taking pictures of young couples, a dad throwing a frisbee to his young children and bike riders.

It made me happy to be out in the sun and to have time with Jon after a very hectic couple of weeks.  We have had so little time together and found that a soothing drive on a sunny Sunday without the stresses of every day life was just what we needed.
