Tug-O-War

On Labor Day this year I stood behind a chain link fence and watched a softball game. It was a game that I could have participated in if I had chosen to. But words like, bulging disc, pulled muscle and pain floated through my mind and I decided easily that I would pass on the activity.

I have always felt the pull into being a grown-up unattractive. I recently felt a pang of fear when I bought a pill dispenser for my calcium and multivitamin pills. Like the flag tied to the middle of the rope in a tug-o-war competition I have fought the urge, back and forth, to allow the flag to ever cross the line into being a boring grown-up. Now with terms like hot flashes, grey hair coverage, bone density test and cholesterol in my conversations I feel like the flag just passed the line and I am officially doomed! The strenuous pull is over and I am down.

 Ugh...
