Packing my Bags for Life
This morning as I began to pack my suitcase to return home I noticed how many extra items I had in my bag that I had never used in the three days I have been in Utah. Shoes I had intended to use on a run with Carly never left my suitcase and the several skirts I packed were overlooked for the one skirt I wore twice. I recalled my mind-set days earlier as I looked through my clothing and packed. Everything I tossed in my bag was placed there with a " Just in Case" attitude. I simply wanted to be prepared with options. After all there are unexpected circumstances that call for preparedness. I can remember the days of packing suitcases with a written list of what to wear on what day for specific occasions. Those days are long gone!
I have reflected on my immature attitude towards life many years ago; my life perfectly figured out with written down lists in my head. I would be fit and fashionable for every occasion. And now with a seasoned and less certain view I realize that I have to be prepared for unexpected events. Those idealistic lists were too simple for the true tests of life. I simply know now that my bags need to be packed for the unexpected challenges of life. I can only find such lasting preparations in the teachings of Jesus Christ and even then, I still need his daily help in pulling myself together for the trials of life.
Only then will I be fit for every occasion.
