I See

I remember when my eyesight started wavering. I was reading a book and had to blink hard to re-focus on the small print. But with one hard blink I could refocus and read again. This would fix it for several minutes. I even complained to Jon about my vision, like I was just tired or something. I was blind to the fact that something permanent was changing. I was losing what I once had always  enjoyed; perfect eyesight.

I could read a sign at ridiculous distances and read the tiniest of print on packaging or instructions. I couldn't  relate to my mother who always asked for me to thread a needle or read something off to her.

Now with my sight faltering and with glasses either propped on my head or sliding down the bridge of my nose, I recognize the reality that I can't see like I used to be able to. I even wear glasses to see what I am eating.

I know my sight didn't just dim in a day but it felt like it did. It honestly took me by surprise when the eye doctor diagnosed my sight problem with,

" Just one too many birthdays."

Each day I guess it was fading, changing and slipping away.
