Crow Anyone?

The declarative sentence (A sentence in the form of a statement) can come back to bite you so be careful what you say. How many times have you heard yourself or others say something that begins with phrasing like, 


" I won't ever......

and end with words like this?

have misbehaved children

gain weight when I get old

live in Wyoming

wait for a missionary

fight with my husband

raise my voice

have children before I can afford them

or wear that

It seems that there is someone chuckling above when we are stupid enough, and we all are, to state these absolutes out loud. It is a tempt of fate! Almost immediately , it seems, an order is placed in the high courts above to make sure we eat our own words.

I have been thinking about this because Jenna has so often made these kinds of statements when it comes to seeing people in love. She sees their behavior on the verge of ridiculous and silly. For years she has stated that there are things that she will DO before she ever ever falls for a man. Her list included living in England and other travels that she felt were so important before she even entertained the idea of falling in love. She has shared these lectures of people who seem to lack vision and control with many. I know she felt these ideas strongly. I reminded her that she just hadn't ever been in love before. Her response was usually something like

"Psh."

Before she left for Idaho last semester she stated that she was only going to date preemies ( young men that had not yet served a mission for two years) because they would not be looking for love but would be more interested in having fun and dating a lot of girls. It was the promise of "nothing serious" that she was sure she would find.

Jenna is home this semester and most evenings you can find her in her room talking on SKYPE to her preemie boyfriend, Francisco Segundo. Fran is the love of her life. He will leave for his mission in June. Her plan has been foiled!

Now with a sense of understanding of that feeling of crazy love she has had to admit, as she does willingly, that despite our best efforts to plan life, life is what happens between the plans.
