Today while I stood in a line to return my redbox movie I was entertained by the woman in front of me dancing around in constant motion. She had the redbox flap lifted with her face leaned into the screen while the rest of her body shimmied. With cicadas flying all around us she explained that cicadas bite and if you stand still too long they think you are a tree and will bite you. Really?
Behind me in the line, was a teenage girl and any time one of these ferocious bugs game near her she let out the tiniest scream...ya know loud but quick. A lot of those bugs came near her so there was a constant, patterned high pitch scream coming from her.
I wanted to laugh out loud.
I finally made it through the line to return my movies and then went inside the Walgreens. Inside there was a designated boy sweeping up the smashed and left to die cicadas that had made it inside on someone's shoe. Some came in alive probably by riding high on top of some elderly woman's well sprayed hair-do. Those cicadas buzzed around from the antacid aisle to the cosmetic aisle making their annoying buzzing sound.
I am simply stunned at the annoyance of these flying bugs. Their sound is deafening and their appearance is pretty ugly. I have also discovered that when you bite into one they are rather crunchy and tasty....according to my dog, Menah. While she attacked, pinned and ate one she licked her chops and I clearly heard her make the "yummy" sound...Mmmmmmmm. I was laughing at Cassie's drama over the dog who very much enjoyed her tasty cicada treat. Come one...the next time she will have a chance to have this treat will be in another thirteen years!
What has left me thinking is there have been a few calamities recently...flooding, bugs, tornadoes, tsunamis, fires, arnold schwarzenegger, drought, unusual rain out west and snow coming at strange times. Al gore suggests that we humans are contributing to "global warming" every day and that all these problems are connected with the earth weeping. His ideas are to assign each man his duties to care for the planet and therefore influence weather and pestilences. Again, really?
John...from the book of revelations says these are the signs of the last days.
I'm going with John on this one.
