I had a great childhood.
My sister, Joni and I were like peas and carrots.... always together. She made me laugh like no other. Now as adults, ( I use that term loosley because we don't act like adults) it is the same. When we get together it is magical and full of lots of laughs.
Growing up with Joni meant
chinese jump-rope wrapped around the legs of two chairs
jacks
string games making jacob's ladder, cat's whiskers and witch's hat
paper dolls from the JC Penney catalogue
dressing up the dog
playing barbies with intricate homes built of wooden blocks
playing pretend business/office
kick the can with the neighborhood kids
Watching the Frog Prince and speaking the language of the curse...." Where gid you doe?"
a made-up silly song on the piano about a boy who farted on a date
Joni would flip the bird to the guy who took our parking space, cause I couldn't ever do that!
Saturday morning Bugs Bunny cartoons...still make me crack up
Sharing the car we referred to as the "Vet"...it was a chevette decked out with curb feelers that dad put on so we wouldn't scratch up the white walls...ew
no bake cookies eaten directly from the pan...if there were no quick oats we substituted with corn flakes or cheerios
I fixed Joni's hair when the perm was bad or the hair just wouldn't cooperate
Doing her make-up on the morning she married Laury
Living in Utah with our first babies, Reed and Rachel and making a road-trip home to Tennessee
Walking together to stay fit while pushing strollers
Joni was with me when Rachel laughed for the first time at the Smith's grocery store
Playing Fool's Poker with Jon and Laury
Making bread from a starter Joni gave me...I loved the bread and hated the commitment to keep the starter alive!
Joni could get my colicky baby to stop crying when I couldn't take it any more
We married cousins, very close to the same DNA in our kids so...when she kept having boys and I kept having girls we considered trading off a few for a better balance...
