Say it With Sound!
Today I get to help young readers learn sounds and pull words and stories together with their new skills. I have gone to read with them only once before and I came away feeling like I had been helped more than I helped. I believe that change in this world comes from people reaching out and helping people.
My fear is that we have forgotten how to reach out to others because we have quit talking to each other. I am very aware of this each time I pump my own gas, scan my own groceries, electronically pull money from my account or shop online. The world is becoming less and less personal.
The sound of another person's voice, their words full of emotion and inflection is a gift. Instead we communicate more often with acronyms like LOL that can't even come close to the personal connection made when we hear someone laughing out loud.
So talk! read aloud! laugh! and share the stories of your life. Make someone feel special by saying HELLO with a smile.
I am blessed today because I get to hear the little sounds of young readers, sounding out each letter and word. And after they have read their story I get a high five, look them in the eye and a get a smile...and it is inevitable that I will have to smile back.
